Melissa Bynum
Executive Director
Melissa Bynum is the Executive Director of the Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kansas. She oversees all day-to-day activities of the organization and coordinates all activities, services and programs.
Melissa holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Kansas State University. She has worked in many leadership roles over decades in Wyandotte County, including her current service as an elected official with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/ Kansas City, Kansas (At Large, District One).
Melissa has been the executive director since 2013.
Jessie Alvarez
Community Outreach and Support Coordinator
Jessie Alvarez is the community outreach and support coordinator.
She is a retired lawyer from the United States Department of Education, and she began working with Shepherd’s Center in November, 2019.
Mark Templeton
Minor Home Repair Coordinator
Mark Templeton is the Minor Home Repair Coordinator with the Shepherd’s Center of KCK.
He is a skilled tradesman and holds an MSW in social work, making him uniquely qualified to assist our older adults.
He has been the coordinator since 2019 and worked four years prior to that as a volunteer.
Jeffrey Walker
Financial Administrator
Jeff Walker has been the Financial Administrator for the Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kansas for more than 22 years.
Over the course of his nearly 30-year career in nonprofit finance, he has shared his expertise with many organizations in Kansas City; most notably the Lyric Opera of Kansas City where his is currently the Chief Financial Officer, the National World War I Museum and Memorial, Visit Kansas City Kansas, and the KCK Chamber of Commerce. A 26+ year member of the Kiwanis Club of Kansas City Kansas, he also serves on the Board of the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.
In his free time, he enjoys going to the opera, reading, and traveling with his family
