Are you handy with tools and enjoy helping others? Do you require a small repair job to be completed in your home? The Shepherd's Center of KCK has a Minor Home Repair program for older adults in Kansas City, Kansas. Jobs are small repair jobs that normally take one to two hours to complete.
Minor Home Repair volunteers are willing and able to evaluate and refer more complicated repair work. Volunteers with the Minor Home Repair program are skilled and experienced in plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and other general repairs. They are recruited, trained, and supported by Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kansas.
As a rule, the jobs do not include painting or climbing on ladders. If you enjoy doing small repair jobs and helping others, OR if you require small repair jobs completed in your home, please contact the Shepherd's Center of Kansas City, Kansas, 913-281-8908.

Electrical
- Switch replacement
- Replacement of plugs on cords
- Light bulb replacement
- Fuse replacement
- Socket replacement
Plumbing
- Faucet repair
- Shower head repair or replacement
- Flapper valve replacement in toilet tanks
- NO DRAINS
Carpentry
- Step repair (for repair and referral)
- Door trim repair or replacement
- Door catch, cabinet, hinge, etc. repair
Heating
- Furnace filter replacement
Concrete Work
- Evaluation to determine repair or referral (no charge)
Yard Work
- Referral of yard work and window washing. WE DO NOT DO ANY TYPE OF YARDWORK.
General Repairs
- Main floor winterization and weather stripping
- No insulation
- Smoke detector installation
- Lock repair or replacement
- Screen replacement
- Minor miscellaneous repair
Terms and Conditions
We only accept small projects (1-2 hours to complete). Materials must be furnished by caller. Ability to accept projects is limited by the number of handyman volunteers available.
Eligibility
Attendance to at least one Adventures in Learning and/or other Shepherd's Center activity (such as Creative Classes, trips, etc.) OR a re homebound and age 60+.
